FTF Group Climate® supplies Academic Hub at Haberdashers' Boys School with Multi-Service Radiant Panels
FTF Group Climate® was selected to supply the multi-million (GBP) academic hub development at the prestigious Haberdashers School for Boys (Elstree, UK) with their Multi-Service Radiant Panels (MSRP's) chosen to provide heating, acoustic sound absorption and LED lighting.
Originally dating back to 1690, the Haberdashers School for Boys is one of the top independent boys' schools in the UK with approximately 20% of its students going on to study at the UK's most prestigious universities, Oxford and Cambridge.
The new academic hub, situated on the grounds of Aldenham House - part of the existing school campus in Elstree, Hertfordshire, is split across two buildings named after former headmasters at the school and will provide state- of-the-art teaching facilities for all core subjects for students aged 4-18.
The two-story Taylor building sees English, Theology and Philosophy, and Modern Foreign Languages meanwhile Maths and Economics are taught in the three-story Hinton building, as well as departmental offices. The addition of a new 100-seat drama studio constructed between the Taylor and Bourne buildings also acts as a bridge for the campus.
Each classroom includes lockers for students with an integrated 'teaching wall' featuring a 84-inch interactive screen, whiteboard, and storage space.
A key consideration during the design phase was to ensure that the new buildings' interior aesthetic remained consistent with the existing school buildings. Corridors and internal doors were finished in an oak glazing with corridors also featuring an oak timber ceiling.
The schools aim for the development of the facilities were to "inspire dynamic teaching and learning" allowing for a more "flexible and adaptable, future-driven approach to teaching".
The buildings were constructed of reinforced concrete frames, supported by Continuous Flight Auger (CFA) piled foundations. Both buildings also featured brick cladding, aluminium windows, and zinc clad pitched roofing.
The school remained open during construction, with disruption kept to a minimum with key initiatives such as a temporary car park, allowing students and other school occupants to be dropped off away from the building site to maximize safety.
It's estimated that the project delivered 20 Million (GBP) of social value activity delivered primarily by working with supplier and subcontractors in the Hertfordshire area, whilst also using local businesses for on-site amenities.
In addition to presentations provided to students at the school, numerous educational establishments also visited the site, including engineering graduates from multi-billion-pound consultant firm Aecom, as well as students from Nottingham Trent University who are also familiar with MSRP technology as FTF Group Climate® also supplied the MSRP units at NTU's Engineering Building
Haberdashers School for Boys celebrity alumni include Harry Potter actor Jason Isaacs, humourist David Baddiel, comic actor Sasha Baron Cohen, and 1996 Formula One World Champion Damon Hill.
Multi-Service Radiant Panels (MSRPs)
Multi-Service Radiant Panels (MSRP’s) combine Radiant Panel (electric or LTHW) with acoustic sound absorption and integrated LED lighting 100% pre-fabricated, ‘plug n play’ units.
These attractive units are 100% prefabricated offsite in a controlled factory environment by FTF Group Climate® and fully tested before dispatch, ready for simple 'plug and play' on site installation, which significantly reduces on site coordination and installation program time.
FTF Group Climate's MSRP's provide the ideal solution for schools and other educational facilities as other services can be incorporated such as sprinkler heads, compartment trunking for other electrical services, apertures for PA and VA speakers and lighting controls.
FTF Group Climate® have the in-house capability to design and manufacture their own LED luminaires, which are all fully evaluated for lighting performance within FTF Group Climate's own photometric testing facilities.
Virtually any type of lighting solution can be accommodated within FTF Group Climate's MSRP units such as direct only, indirect only and a combination of direct and indirect. Learn more about FTF Group Climate's MSRP technology by clicking the button below.
